Hello and welcome everyone to the first episode of ‘The Edit’ from TMC.
In this new series, we’re going to be talking about all things relating to the world of video marketing. So, if you are a business owner or a marketing professional looking for guidance and insights from the world of video, then I’m sure you will find this valuable.
Firstly, I thought it would be good to share some ideas and thoughts in terms of where to [publish your video content other than the obvious, go-to platform of YouTube.
YouTube is fantastic for embedding videos on your website and sharing videos, it’s a really good catch-all. However, the number of video platforms is growing and depending on who you are actually targeting with your content it’s worth considering these alternatives and looking at what they can do for you.
Many of these platforms are niche, which could work really well if you know who it is that you’re targeting and you have clear messages that you want to get across with a certain type of engagement you want to achieve. For example, if you know your audience you can look at each of the platforms and study the demographics and work out where’s best to place your content.
Here’s a quick overview to get you started. Whilst Facebook and Instagram have a broad appeal, platforms like Twitch and Reddit are good for targeting a younger audience. If you want to go younger still, then Snapchat and Tik Tok have a strong following with Gen-Z.
For Gen-Y and upwards twitter is good and of course, LinkedIn is more for business. When you publish to niche platforms you can begin to segment the creative according to your audience. So, you may end up with a few variations of the same video to suit various demographics of the available platforms. You should then start to see engagement levels rise and be able to measure success not just on the number of plays and likes, but also deeper metrics such as time watched.
Going forward, time watched is something you should really focus on and that’s something I’m going to talk a lot more about in the future. If you can improve time watched on your videos then you really are well on your way to achieving great success with your video marketing.
Thanks for watching.
