The Waldorf Astoria – Edinburgh

Promotional video for Edinburgh's famous Caledonian Hotel

Why?

The hotel wanted a video that showcased the improvements to regular and new visitors alike. To help promote the upgraded hotel The Marketing Café was asked to produce a short film. We shot the video over two fairly long days during some spectacular summer weather in Edinburgh. The brief for the production was to stay ‘on brand’ as closely as possible with some creative license to do our own thing. Waldorf Astoria’s online videos follow a theme of telling stories and promoting the experience.

What?

This is a promotional video to take potential guests on a journey around the hotel. Having recently been taken over by Waldorf Astoria, The Caledonian Hotel had undergone significant changes and refurbishment. Previously known as The Caledonian, this iconic Edinburgh hotel has been through a major transformation following a £25m refurbishment. Now a Waldorf Astoria hotel this is now one of Edinburgh’s most sought after five-star destinations.

How?

For this hotel video production, we decided to interview some members of staff to talk us through what they do and different aspects of the hotel. These interviews included the Concierge, Executive Chef and Guerlain Spa Manager. The result was really powerful with the interviewees adding great authenticity and helping to bring the brand and experience to life. The video has now been launched on the clients own YouTube channel and website.

"The Marketing Café has been a very reliable partner for the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian hotel, over the past years; they are always open to challenges and their final result is always outstanding. Couldn’t recommend them enough!"

Waldorf Astoria | Edinburgh – The Caledonian
Thomas Stewart, Concierge: We’re one of the few cities in Europe that has both a castle and a palace. The welcome is well received throughout the city is tremendous. This lounge area is now the finest in the city. From a historical point of view, you’re actually standing in the former platform area and railway tracks of the train station. We were originally built by The Great Western Railway Company.
Craig Sandle, executive chef: The passion that drives me to cook food in The Pompadour and Galvin Brasserie Deluxe and the hotel, in general, is the seasonal produce we can get here in Scotland. We’ve got some really great produce, different times of the year from the game to the seafood to forage mushrooms to wild foraged ingredients. That’s what drives us here really, we look at what’s available and do some nice dishes and get everyone excited by it.
Genevieve Ainsworth, Guerlain spa manager: Guerlain experience is tailored to each individual’s needs and wants for that day so you have each treatment tailored to however you want to feel for each time you come and visit us in the spa.
Thomas: Our recognition is tremendous, you know, making guests feel at home, you know, you’re creating memories for them.
